| MARCH'S EXHIBITOR |

| As the Jazz Age dawned in 1919, Black artist, writers, and musicians flocked to a little-known part of Manhattan called Harlem. Soon their talent and faith in the future began to demolish any view about the artist limits of Black creativity as they etched a Black neighborhood onto the cultural map of the world. The Harlem Renaissance, the name given to this fertile period of creativity, left a rich cultural legacy. This exhibition of Harlem Renaissance's Art of Black America, explores the visual aspect of that legacy, by taking a comprehensive look at the compelling images of the era through a variety of works of a small, yet representative group of painters, sculptors, and photographers. There could be no better example of this tradition than what we are presenting here as our Education 101. It is our desire at The African Art Wholesale Shop, to provide an example for you and your children, to experience together the growth, vigor, scholarship, and depth of vision that these artist had during the 20's, that came from the vitality, creativity, and dreams of the Harlem Renaissance, which are very much with us today. |
